From the village of Nunkolo on the central coast of West Timor. Collected in the field in 2008 by Julie Emery. C1960 Authentic Crescent Moon and Sun symbols depiciting male and female energies for fertility.
Rumah Adat is the traditional house that holds many of a villages tribal artifacts. Bapak Augustinus Tefa from the village offered this rare and beautiful piece to me. He is blind and his granddaughter accompanies him everywhere.
Created using any available metal that is beaten to shape then covered with a thin layer of the high silver content dutch coins left in the spice isles by the retreating colonialists. The art and skill of creating these pieces of silver work is a dying art in Timor.
