KAL AU/Lime Powder container Bone Animist

In this lime powder container the creator has constructed a head with pot on top that acts as the plug, made from white wood that has been blackened. The bone is using the left overs of last night dinner of Goat or Cow. Still used by everyday Timorese and made in 2 specialist carving villages by BONE CARVERS.

The motif, that has been skillfully worked into this most difficult of mediums, is a simplistic version of their traditional kaif motif that tells of the carvers totemic and guardian spirits.

17cm /6" tall.

85g/3oz.

Freight is additional. See Zz freight tables in the left hand categories column. Category A. Insurance and or tracking is additional.

Because of the diameter of this treasure it must be sent as a parcel. You can put 1 item of a similar weight into one parcel to maximize shipping.

Selecting, offering, cutting, chewing and spitting of Pua holds high social bearing in the structure of Timorese Society and the Atoni have created a spectacular and varied betel nut accessory or paraphernalia around it. Containers to hold the Betel and Sirih and Tobacco, different ones to hold the lime powder, cutters and mashers to help you keep right on chewing when your teeth are too worn down and bags to keep it all in.

For more information about Betel nut and its place in Timorese society please go to Julies site www.timortreasures.com/julie or clik link under paypal sign on the left top of home page and look under Culture in Timor.
