Traditional Timorese womens dress comprises Tais which is the handwoven tubular skirt, lace top or kabaya, scarf or selandang, headress and one of these 'silver belts'.
Created using any available metal that is beaten to shape then covered with a thin layer of the high silver content dutch coins left in the spice isles by the retreating colonialists. Etched and engraved with decorative motifs this belt comes in 10 sections each pinned and the buckle is handbeaten brass.
